Newtown joins UPTOWN Program

Newtown Enmore Business Community Partners joins the Uptown Grant Program to Drive District Coordination and Consumer Engagement

The Newtown Enmore Business Community (NEBC) is proud to announce its integral role in the Uptown Grant Program, Round 2, supported by Create NSW and the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner. This program is set to invigorate Newtown’s vibrant business community and enhance its reputation as a leading hub of cultural and economic activity.

As part of the grant, NEBC will spearhead the "Newtown Collective – The Hub" initiative, a comprehensive project designed to foster district-wide collaboration, enhance consumer engagement, and solidify Newtown as a key precinct within Sydney’s 24-hour economy.

Key Components of the Initiative

The original plan focuses on three primary objectives to ensure a lasting impact on Newtown’s business ecosystem:

  1. District Coordination:
NEBC will lead efforts to unify King Street’s diverse business community through the appointment of a District Coordinator and Assistant Administrator. These roles will facilitate local placemaking initiatives, streamline communication, and provide tailored support to high street businesses.

  2. Consumer Engagement and Branding:
A dedicated marketing and branding strategy will spotlight the unique vibrancy of King Street, capturing its appeal for locals and visitors alike. This includes the development of a district identity, wayfinding systems, and comprehensive marketing campaigns aimed at driving membership, foot traffic, and precinct-wide awareness.

  3. Precinct-Wide Collaboration:
The initiative will include dynamic activations such as monthly business events, quarterly publications, and the launch of a digital platform showcasing gig guides, market highlights, and advertising opportunities. These efforts are designed to position Newtown as a model precinct within Sydney’s thriving 24-hour economy.

Supported by the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner

The inclusion of NEBC in the Uptown Grant Program reflects the Community's alignment with the NSW Government’s vision for a dynamic 24-hour economy. By fostering collaboration among businesses and delivering innovative consumer engagement strategies, NEBC’s project ensures Newtown remains a pivotal part of Sydney’s economic and cultural landscape.

“This partnership with the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner underscores the importance of Newtown as a vibrant, inclusive, and economically significant precinct,” said James Thorpe, President of NEBC. “Through the Newtown Collective – The Hub, we aim to strengthen our local business community and further establish King Street as a must-visit destination.”

Looking Ahead

With a roadmap of milestones extending through 2025, the initiative promises tangible benefits for businesses, residents, and visitors. From enhanced branding and marketing to the seamless execution of district-wide events, NEBC is committed to creating a cohesive, engaging, and sustainable high street experience.
