2024 AGM wash up
Building Together: A Year of Growth and Community Spirit!
Dear Members,
Our first year has been mostly in “start up” mode, with 50 members signed up, a brand, a website, several grant applications applied for and successful, some great events completed and activations planned.
We have open and regular dialogue with CoS and IWC and state government departments where we have mostly been building our relationship with all so we can team up where we align and advocate where we see gaps in support. To date, our activity has been made possible with seed funding from Inner West Council and volunteer time from the executive committee.
Our next big event will be Celebrate South King as a dual Council event in November 2024. We can say as of today that we have been successful in obtaining a quick response grant from the City of Sydney for $10,000 to support the event, and are working with Inner West Council to match the funding. We’re really encouraged by the collaboration both Councils have shown in supporting us to produce this weekend long activation between businesses and artists.
Membership is free until October - we hope to extend the free offer for another 12 months, however this largely depends on funding. In the meantime, please encourage local businesses to sign up to our join our membership!
Satellites - We welcome more satellite members to represent their little section of our vast precinct, welcoming Sonya and Bev from The Social Outfit to join the current team in representing mid-King street. See the minutes for more details.
While we are apolitical as an organisation, we can’t do what we do without local and state government, so it was excellent to have heard from Greens MP Jenny Leong, Independent candidate for City of Sydney, Jess Miller and Labor Councillor for Inner West Damun ward Chloe Smith at the end of the AGM. Across the three party’s, they share a collaborative approach to vibrancy, culture and economic growth. We wish all best of luck in the upcoming local elections and look forward to continuing to work with Councillors who share our in common goals.
Other news:
City of Sydney have their economic strategy out for consultation, we encourage you to read the report and offer feedback to the city by 27th September. We are keen to see more investment in the overall infrastructure and streets of our vibrant precinct and will keep advocating for this.
We learned on Tuesday from Clr Chloe Smith that Inner West Council have secured Enmore rd as a satellite precinct for SXSW this October, we will share more information as we get it to see how businesses can participate.
